As the song goes: New York, New York, so good they named it twice.
I arrived in New York today for the first time in over 7 years and found it as fascinating and appealing to visit as ever. Would I like to live here? Absolutely not. Big cities are not my cup of tea. I don't like traffic and crowds so would never survive long term. I also find the extremes of temperatures hard to handle as I am not used to it.
Having said that, this is a great place to visit with so much to see and do. We arrived at our hotel in Manhattan around 5:00 pm after an eventful trip on the subway from JFK. After checking in we decided to take a walk to Times Square to experience the atmosphere and grab a bite to eat.
I find the mixture of old buildings, skyscrapers, and enormous LED billboards fascinating. We walked by Bryant park and nowhere is the contrast greater than here. The quaint little seating areas and cafes outside of the public library building remind me of London and Paris, yet in the background are modern, elaborately designed skyscrapers.
It goes to show that old and new can co-exist. You can add modern twists to established things. This applies to all aspects of life so do not dismiss this in your own world.
