Thoughts are things

"Truly, thoughts are things, and their scope of operation is the world, itself" - Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich.

I read this statement this morning and spent some time reflecting on what it means. After some time I came to the understanding that thoughts are ideas and what we do with these determines what happens in the world.

Everyone has thoughts but not everyone acts in them. Think about it from your own perspective.

  • How many thoughts do you have in an average week?
  • How many of these thoughts do you take and turn into an idea?
  • How many of these ideas do you put into action?

If you are like the majority of people you will see that the numbers diminish with each question. As I was contemplating Napoleon Hill's statement I received the following in my inbox from Simon Sinek: Fight against something and we focus in the thing we hate. Fight for something and we focus on the thing we love.

On the face of it these are two distinctly different statements but as I studied them further I discovered a link. The thoughts that we have arrive for a reason. They are being sent from our subconscious mind and if we take them, nurture them, turn them into ideas, and make those ideas a reality, we will be focusing on what we love. If we ignore them we will be forced to focus on what we don't love, or even hate, as Simon says.

Do more of what you love and happiness will find you.
