The second letter in my A-Z of inspiration is B.
B = Belief.
Belief in yourself and what you want to achieve is crucial in order to succeed. After all, if you don't believe in yourself, why should anyone else?
Here is the first letter in my A-Z of Inspiration.
A = Awareness.
Awareness of where you are now and where you want to go, not what you do not have!
One thing that is becoming apparent to me as I navigate my growth journey is this: If you don't take control of your life, someone else will and you don't know what they have in store for you.
This sounds like an obvious thing to say and most people will answer that they have control, but do they? What intentional actions are you taking to control your destiny?
I have been there, got into a rut and a routine where I thought everything was going well and then, out of nowhere, someone takes control and changes my life. Have you experienced this?
The only way you can stay in control is to know your purpose, have a vision, and then create a strategy to get you there. Success and happiness is found on the journey, not in reaching the destination. You need to live your life and enjoy it every day so make that change today and start living for you.
Over the last week I have come to the conclusion that the key to happiness is as easy as ABC.
Awareness of where you are in your current life and where you want to be. Without this trait it is highly unlikely that you will find sustained happiness as your direction will purely be based on luck.
Belief in what you want and that it is possible to get there. You need to maintain a positive attitude and form a realistic plan/strategy to achieve your goals.
Commitment is what you need to get you through the tough times that will inevitably arrive when you are stretching yourself.
Ask yourself whether you have these traits and how you apply them every day?
The Law of Attraction states that what we think and believe will be come to us. This is a concept that a lot of people find hard to comprehend but when you think about it there is definite logic to it.
Have you heard the saying "money comes to money"? This is something that I used to hear back in England when I was growing up and was referring to how those with money seemed to accumulate more and those who didn't have money struggled to change their financial status.
This, in essence, is the law of attraction. People with money will have an abundance mindset whereas those without will generally have a scarcity mindset. When you don't have anything it is natural to feel that your "luck" is down and that you will always struggle to become rich. The challenge is that you are then attracting the poverty forces, whereas if you see yourself as rich and adopt an abundance mindset, you will attract riches.
The truth is that thoughts alone will not work, you need to adopt intentional actions...
Limiting beliefs are the things that we tell ourselves which prevent us from achieving what we want to do. We all have these limiting beliefs and to become the best version of yourself you will need to identify them and banish them.
Here are some examples of limiting beliefs:
All of these examples may be true on the surface although they can all be overcome if you know your purpose and have a passion to succeed. The question you need to ask yourself is this:
Do I want it badly enough to do anything within my power to make it happen.
I like to refer to a dream as being an impossible goal. You may ask what is the point of having a dream that is impossible to achieve, and it is a great question.
The answer is that "living your dream" is about the journey, not the destination. When you are pursuing the impossible goal, you will be stretching yourself and the goals you set along the way are the points that will give you the satisfaction.
If you fall into the trap of setting easily achievable goals you will not grow yourself and can get to a stage where you feel that you have reached your pinnacle, and this is when life gets monotonous and boring.
The other benefit of pursuing an impossible goal is that you can leave a legacy, so even if you do not achieve your goal there will be other people to carry the torch and make it come true eventually.
What is your dream?
When you have goals and you are not aware of your current challenges that are preventing them from being achieved, you are likely to fall into the trap of changing the goals.
This is something I refer to as "Shiny Object Syndrome" where an easier option becomes appealing when the original goal is not being achieved. You may be asking what is wrong with this?
If you refer back to previous posts you will recall that I describe how goals are stepping stones, or check marks, on the journey to your dream. Therefore, if you give up on one goal and move onto an easier one, it may not be taking you towards your dream.
When you are aware of your challenges, you are able to change the plan that you are working on while remaining on route to your goal and dream. Think about this in terms of a GPS. When faced with an obstruction the system doesn't change your destination, it offers a detour that will take you around the obstacle and get you back on route to your original destination.
Yesterday I introduced you to this topic of goals and challenges by outlining what a goal is in relation to a dream. Today I want to move onto challenges.
Your current challenges are the things that stop you achieving what you want to do. Most people are not aware of what these are and therefore it is extremely difficult to over come them. We only know what we know and cannot fix what we are not aware of.
This is one of the reasons that I recommend completing a daily journal with reflection on what has happened during the day. This reflection time is what will help you to identify your challenges. Once you know what your challenges are you can start to work on how they can be overcome.
Don't take on too much at one time, select the challenge that will provide you with the most benefit by overcoming it, and work on that one.
Do you have a clear picture of your goals for the future and your current challenges?
Over the next few days I will be looking into this area in more detail so that you can start to be more intentional about these topics.
A dream is an over arching big picture view of what you would love to achieve. This should be a big stretch from where you are now and maybe something that you will not actually achieve in your lifetime.
Goals are the stepping stones, or check marks, that you will be achieving while on the journey towards your dream. These should be more short term targets and, while they should be a stretch, a goal is something that you want to be able to reach so that you are accomplishing things. This encouragement will keep you going through the tough times that will be inevitable while pursuing a big dream.
Start with the end in mind and then set a 3 month, a 6 month and a 1 year goal.
