Many people ask me how do you find your why, and how do you know when you have found it? These are great questions and all I can share is my own experience.
My life has been successful from a professional perspective but not always on a personal level. Even within my professional life I found myself always wanting more and becoming impatient for success. I had a great career in the UK as a leader/Manager within the retail automotive industry. I had a natural talent for analyzing, planning, and delivering results but it never made me truly happy. I always thought that happiness would come as a result of success and money - boy was I wrong!
Even when I started my new life in the USA with a new relationship and a career with Disney, I still was not happy. Success came professionally once again but, as in the past, it didn't bring me happiness and therefore my personal life suffered. I hit rock bottom in August 2015 and at this point I knew something had to change or I would end up self...
Many people believe that being able to multi-task will guide them to a successful life. The truth is, Focus is the one thing that will get you further in life.
As human beings we are only able to focus on one thing at a time and therefore being able to single-task effectively is a far more productive skill to master. I have been guilty of trying to do too much and as a result achieving little, even though on the surface it looked like I was extremely active.
If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority!
Focus stands for: Follow One Course Until Successful. When you grasp this concept you can learn to prioritize and schedule your tasks, which in turn will allow you to get more done in less time and therefore be more productive.
Leadership is influence because the sign of a good leader is how many people willingly follow them. The best way to get followers is to influence them by inspiration.
I have worked for some "leaders" who are really managers. By this I mean that they dictate what happens, they don't show you the way. They are more focused on telling you how many people report to them as a sign of their importance when they should be more concerned about saying how many people they work for.
A great leader is determined by the performance of their team, not themselves. I would often tell my teams that my success is measured by their success so I was there to support them.
I will repeat again: Leadership is Influence. Who are you currently influencing by your actions?
People often tell me that you cannot control your destiny and whenever I hear this it reminds me that most of us live in fear of failure. The underlying meaning of this statement is an excuse for not achieving more from life.
"I am the Master of my fate, I am the Captain of my soul" - William Ernest Henley
I believe that we can control our destiny by making decisions that are considered and well thought out based on the choices presented to us every day. In order to make the right decisions we need to have a good level of awareness of where we are not and where we want to go.
Once we make the decisions we need to have the courage of our convictions and believe that we are doing the right thing. By following these simple rules we will be n control of our destiny.
Do you have an effective GPS?
A Growth Production System.
If you want to become the best version of yourself and live a life of freedom and happiness you will need to employ a growth production system that will guide your to greatness.
In my program, Your Third Quarter, I show you how to use my GPS to maximize your potential so that you can live the life that you deserve. When you are living the dream you are able to do what you want to do, when you want to do it, with who you want to do it, and how you want to do it.
Are you ready to press "Go" on your Growth Production System now?
Recently I shared how leading a life of happiness is as easy as ABC. I don't mean to trivialize the process because leading the life that you want requires following a process and committing to your success.
What does a life of happiness mean to you?
For me it is being able to do what I want, when I want, how I want and with who I want. This is my life of freedom and being able to live like this means I am happy.
What actions can you take now that will lead you to your life of freedom?
Over the last week I have come to the conclusion that the key to happiness is as easy as ABC.
Awareness of where you are in your current life and where you want to be. Without this trait it is highly unlikely that you will find sustained happiness as your direction will purely be based on luck.
Belief in what you want and that it is possible to get there. You need to maintain a positive attitude and form a realistic plan/strategy to achieve your goals.
Commitment is what you need to get you through the tough times that will inevitably arrive when you are stretching yourself.
Ask yourself whether you have these traits and how you apply them every day?
Do you complete a daily journal?
I will be honest, I have not been good at this in my past and now I see how it would have been of benefit because reflection is one of the keys to sustained success. I realize that if I don't take time to understand what I did, what worked, and what didn't work during the day, I am less likely to be able to improve and grow myself.
Your journal entry doesn't need to be long, in fact I would say that the more concise the better. Don't just reflect on what didn't go well, learning from our victories is just as important. When you understand what works you are able to replicate it in other tasks too.
Incorporate your daily 5 into your reflection, look for patterns, and work on what you can do to continually improve.
